Watch how this woodwind group moves and breathes as one unit. They are not five separate musicians, but five working together to create a single line of music. Can we do this?
Greensleeves: This recording is of the full band version. See if you can follow your part. Listen to the melody being passed around, and the thick, rich harmonies. It is a very creative arrangement.

Here's an orchestral version of the song we are playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgCEw5bcimY Beethoven's 5th Symphony was written around 1805 and is one of the best-known compositions in classical music. It is also one of the most frequently played symphonies today. We are playing the first movement: Allegro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jh-E5m01wY Jingle Bells: This is fun arrangement by Ken Abeling. It alternates between jazz swing and Latin on the verses and choruses respectively with a fun soli/tutti-section sandwiched in between. http://www.scoreexchange.com/scores/158597.html
Here is some of the music we will be playing this semester. These versions are not always the same as the ones we will be playing, but try best you can to hear your own part and how it fits into the whole!

or, copy and paste if the link doesn't work: http://www.sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/music/community/community_events/all_state_band_recordings.php Today we talked about Region/All-State auditions. Here is the website with all the information:
http://www.bandlink.org/allstate/auditions/ The Lugoff Band is in Region 3. Auditions are January 11th at Dutch Fork High School, and costs $10.00 per student. Registration deadline is November 8th. There are two things you need to start doing to prepare: 1) Because we are a homeschool band, there is some extra paperwork we need to fill out. I need documentation of each students family’s SCHSA membership by our Oct 22nd rehearsal. You can make a copy and send it with your student to class, or come with the original and make a copy right there in our rehearsal room. 2) Purchase or borrow the book that contains the required audition etude. This list can be found on the bandlink website. If you are in 7th or 8th grade, look in the audition requirements for Junior Band, 9th and 10th grade under Clinic Band, and 11th and 12th grade under Senior Band. Here are two more links that will take you to audio recordings of the two new songs I handed out today. Be sure to listen to them both multiple times this week, and follow along in your music while listening for your part!
